Just over fourteen years ago, the former Executive Director of Family Solutions Inc, John Peel received a call from Tim & Marci Salmon wishing to speak with him about the organization. They met that day & forged a partnership that grew and resulted in a much anticipated annual event- The Tim Salmon Golf Classic, Benefiting the Abused and At-Risk Children of Family Solutions & Laurel House.
The golf tournament had very humble beginnings with just a few staff and Board members struggling alongside the loyal support of the Angels. Several groups came out consistently, but the challenge still remained to fill the course at Dove Canyon Country Club & sellout for the very first time. That would all change, come the fall of 2002.
With the Angels’ first ever World Series win, the Tim Salmon Golf Classic, set for February 2003, was completely booked for the very first time before Thanksgiving of 2002! In addition, we were contacted by someone that would near singlehandedly turn things around in ways we never imagined and bring the much needed support of all his friends to make it happen. (THANKS WING!!)
Since then, we have moved to the beautiful Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club, with the availability of two full courses, to accommodate the rising numbers. We have been fortunate to grow steadily every year with golfers and money raised to support these kids.
In 2008, the 10th Annual Golf Classic in January was rained out and rescheduled for July. During those months, Family Solutions underwent a merger with Canyon Acres Children & Family Services, announced at the July event. Given the merger and recent change in schedule for Salmon (retiring from his much loved, tenured time with the Angels), the Tim Salmon Golf Classic is now planned and executed by him, his Foundation and the continued support of our amazing committee.
Concept 7 was added as a beneficiary to the event in 2010.
We hope to continually surpass every goal we reach with each passing year, and hope you will join us in supporting Laurel House & Concept 7!
